Know where your business stands before an inspector, insurer or incident tells you.

Storing hazardous chemicals comes with legal duties under Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws. Many small and medium businesses are unsure whether their storage, signage, registers and emergency arrangements meet those requirements. Our Hazardous Chemical Storage Health Check gives you a clear, independent answer at a fixed price, with no surprises.

What’s included

A qualified hazchem consultant visits your site* and reviews:

  • Chemical inventory and classification. We check what you store, how much, and how it’s classified under the GHS.
  • Safety Data Sheets and labelling. We check that SDSs are current and accessible and that containers are correctly labelled.
  • Hazardous chemicals register and manifest. We check whether you need a manifest and whether your register is complete.
  • Storage and segregation. We check that incompatible chemicals are separated, and we review cabinets, bunding and spill containment against the relevant Australian Standards, such as AS 1940 and AS/NZS 3833.
  • Placarding and signage. We check whether your quantities trigger placarding requirements and whether your signage is correct.
  • Ignition sources, ventilation and fire protection. We look at the controls around flammable and reactive substances.
  • Emergency preparedness. We review spill kits, your emergency plan, fire-fighting equipment and whether you need to notify the regulator.
  • Risk management and training. We check whether risks have been assessed and controlled, and whether workers have been given the right information and training.

What you receive

You get a written compliance report that links each observation directly to the relevant regulatory requirement. Every finding comes with practical, prioritised actions, so you know what to fix first, why it matters, and what “compliant” looks like.

The report gives you:

  • a clear record of where you comply and where you have gaps
  • a prioritised action plan you can work through at your own pace
  • evidence of due diligence for management, insurers and auditors

Frequently asked questions

If your business uses, handles or stores hazardous chemicals, you have duties under WHS laws to manage the risks. An independent health check is a cost-effective way to confirm you’re meeting them.

Every finding comes with a recommended action and its priority, so you can fix the most important issues first. We can also help you put the actions in place.

Most small to medium sites take 1 to 2 hours, depending on the number of storage areas and chemicals.

The health check identifies gaps and tells you exactly what needs to change. You become compliant by acting on the recommendations, and we can help with that.
